Vincent van Gogh said, “I would rather die of passion than of boredom.”
Have you found your passion yet?
What does it mean to find your passion and purpose?
Check out this van Gogh Video to find your inner passion:
In our current world, it is assumed that your purpose is a job or career, that if we have the right one we will be lavished with praise, followed on Twitter and Facebook, and money will flow to us like a rock star. If this is not the case, it certainly can’t be your purpose.
Vincent van Gogh’s paintings are now the most valued paintings in the world. One of his paintings sold for 82.5 million dollars in 1990. Supper success, right? Totally connected with his inner soul truth and made a real mark in the world that is timeless, which is the sign of connecting with a true gift and purpose.
But the truth is, during his life he was a pathetic failure who floundered in life, did not start painting until he was 27, lived alone in poverty, spent years institutionalized, and finally committed suicide at 37. The one thing that kept him going was in this quote, “The only time I feel alive is when I am painting.”
Vincent van Gogh only sold one painting in his entire life. He said “In an artist’s life, death is not the most difficult thing.” In addressing the fact that he could not sell his paintings, he said he hoped that someday someone will, “recognize that they are worth more than the value of the paints used in the picture.”
But he stands as so much more than his art, he stands as a person who let himself be called – even without any worldly support to follow his passion – and not die of the boredom that comes for each of us as we betray our dreams for safety.
He showed the world not that he could paint but that he had real faith in what was unbendable within him. He said, “There is safety in the midst of dangers. What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”
What are you called to do? What do you feel in your heart that you do not want die with it still unwrapped in the box?
In my book, Discover your Purpose: How to Use the 5 Life Purpose Profiles to Unlock Your Hidden Potential and Live the Life You Were Meant to Live, I help you see that what you have has been calling you from the moment you were born and will not stop until you take the courage to break away from social expectations and live on your terms.
You don’t need training to be who you are, you need un-training from the rigid rules you were brought up with that keep your soul caged so you can re-open the channels to your fearlessness. At the Rhys Thomas Institute we do just that. We re-awaken your unique gifts and passion so you can unleash it on the world.
Van Gogh said “I feel that my art is not for those alive today, but for a generation that has not been born yet.” You know you have a gift within you as great as van Gogh’s, isn’t it time you share it with the world? Do not fear if it is not a worldly success, if it is your true purpose, it will touch those who it is supposed to. Fear that you will keep it a secret until you no longer have the energy and desire to share it.
Whether you are here to inspire one person or a million, it does not matter. What matters is that you find your passion and not die of boredom.
