If I ask you whether you’re “a courageous person,” what would you say? The truth is real courage comes in many different forms and is more about surrendering and flowing with your environment.
Amongst the thousands of people who I have worked with, many come to me seeking more courage to change a career or a relationship or bad health habits. They have struggled enough to figure out what they are up against and tend to battle with their challenge endlessly. What I have found is that when I point them towards what they are “for” they don’t have to fight any more over what they are “against,” it just fades out of their lives.
In the first email we talked about how to get clarity of purpose. Now, in this second email, let’s talk more about what real courage is. Attaining real courage, once you have accomplished the first step of clarity of purpose, is simple. Just take action to reveal your true greatness every day.
That sounds simple, but there are very good reasons you have resisted revealing those qualities in yourself. For example, you have likely forgotten or lost your way in how to be willing to have an open and vulnerable heart, or say “no” to a loved one, or say “I’m sorry” to someone. Doing these things can be scary and it takes courage to face down your fears.
When we are doing heart work at the institute there is always someone hoping for a “burning building” or some other incident calling for heroism so that they can distract themselves from what really takes courage in their life—to be open to trusting again. Try writing this down: “Everyone in the world wants you to be who they want you to be, not who you are.”
So the most powerful act of dissonance and courage you can perform is the act of being you and being different and showing the world how amazing you are. This means discovering who you are each day and not proving you were right about who you thought you were yesterday.
If you feel like you are ready for mastery level courage that has nothing to do with what you are “against” and realizing that what really scares you is what you are really “for,” join me at my upcoming virtual workshop where I am going to spend 90 minutes diving deep into this and other aspects of the enlightenment process.
